Choosing the Right Cycling Bicycle is not so Simple

There is a misconception that picking the right bike is easy. Many people just think finding a bike that looks good and is comfortable is all there is to picking the right bike. This is wrong, the fact is there are more things to consider these days than there was a few years ago. Cycling is very popular at the moment, be it for sports, fun, transportation etc. With all these uses there are many different bikes to go with each. It is popular in modern times to use a bike as a serious mode of transport. There are also plenty of families that cycle as a hobby. Here is how you choose the right cycling bicycle for your needs.

Consider how the bicycle brakes, for one. It is vital you understand how your brakes work and what brakes will be best suited for your style of cycling. For light use you can get a bike with traditional brakes, ones which simply squeeze the tires with small pads. If you decide you want your bike for more off-roading adventures, you need a different kind of braking system that can keep up with that particular style. For such cycling you should look to disc brakes, these are located within the wheel itself and are less likely to be weakened over time or worse, fail.

If you want to ride a road bike, you will need to subtract about nine inches from your inseam measurement. This is to account for the size of tires you will use on a road bike. City riding is done with thin tires, designed to work perfectly with the smooth concrete roads and sidewalks you find in a city. For a mountain bike take away 12 inches from your inseam. This is because the tires of a mountain bike are different than those on a road bike. Mountain bike tires will be thick and designed for mountainous terrain. Mountain bikes can travel on city pavement but that is not what they are designed to do.

Never leave out the safety gear, either. Bicycle helmets are something completely these details different than they once were. They are now designed to offer better protection while looking a bit better, as well. It is important that you never ride your bicycle without also wearing your helmet. Sometimes that fraction of padding really can save your life!

It wouldn't hurt to invest in some knee pads and elbow pads, as well as wrist and ankle guards if you plan to do some off-roading. If you plan to use your bike as a sole means of transportation, buy yourself some pants clips. These are clips that keep your pants legs up and out of the way of your gears and chain. You will need to think about many different things when choosing a bike for them. Some people will need a bicycle that can stand up under a lot of wear and tear. You may simply be looking for the bike least likely to malfunction because you rely on it to get around. Some people have to think very seriously about the price they are paying for a bike. Research bikes before you decide which you want, then shop around before purchasing. Buying the first bike you find is not advised, in doing this you could end up with a terrible bike and miss out on one that is perfect for you.
